As they say…”Your Health Is Your Wealth”.

As they say…” Your Health Is Your Wealth”.

Taking care of yourself both physically and mentally is great for getting the most out of our days with increased energy levels, a better ability to accomplish our daily goals as well as boosting our mood and concentration levels.

There’s no better time than the present so here’s my jumpstart guide to good health

1) Establish A Feel-Good Routine 🙌🏼

From the moment you open your eyes in the morning, kick start your day by doing something special for yourself – whether that be mediation for 20 minutes, a warm shower or literally smelling the roses. How you spend the first hour of your day sets the tone for the rest of your day, so start your day in the best possible way.

2) Make Your Bed 🛏

If there’s one task that can seem mundane day in and day out its making your bed…. BUT there’s actually a positive to this task (besides making your room cleaner). Making your bed can lower your stress levels as well as improve your mood, leaving you with clarity and feeling calm. You spend roughly a third of your life in your bedroom, so the appearance of it can directly affect you. Making your bed can also lead to more productivity during the day as it’s the kickstart task to better decision making during the day. Pretty amazing for a 2-minute task!

3) Eat Breakfast 🍳

Breakfast literally translates to “breaking-the-fast” so starting your day with a good quality breakfast will help you achieve your daily goals. Besides providing you with a boost of energy, breakfast is also great for your memory and concentration. You’re also less likely to raid the lolly jar later in the day due to low energy levels.

4) Go Tech Free 📱

Okay so I know this may sound hypocritical – after all you are reading this on a smart device. However, putting your phone away for an hour (or more if you can) at some point during the day is a great way to switch off from what can at times be very overwhelming information. You also will be able to pay attention to your surroundings much better without any screens to distract you. During this time, you could enjoy a hobby such as playing music, doing a jigsaw puzzle, gardening or whatever makes you happy. So, go ahead give it a try and see how you feel.

5) Drink Plenty Of Water💧

Water the elixir of good health. Among the most obvious benefits of regular water consumption – hello hydration. Water can also help your immune system flush out toxins as well as regulate your body temperature and help your brain function normally. If you find it hard to drink lots of water, you can always enjoy hydrating foods such as watermelon, cucumber, spinach, bananas, strawberries etc.

6) Get Active 🏃

Keeping active is great for producing those feel good hormones like serotonin. Regular exercises also have benefits for your health like reducing your risk of chronic diseases as well as managing your weight to name a few. Working out with a friend (in person or virtually) can be a great way to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness as well as help keep you accountable. There’re so many ways to exercise that actually don’t feel like exercise like playing with your kids in the backyard, dancing, taking the dog for a walk and even cleaning can all count towards your daily physical activity level.

7) Get Plenty Of Sleep 💤

Sleep is so important for keeping your mental and physical health in check so getting into the habit of going to bed and getting up around the same time each day is so important for good health. P.S. there’s a reason why they say screens shouldn’t be in the bedroom – they can alter the production of the hormone melatonin which controls your sleep/wake cycle. Instead, try reading a book or meditating right before bed time.
